Warren Mansell is currently Professor of Mental Health at Curtin University, Perth, Australia.  After a longstanding interest in science and nature, Warren developed as an academic at University of Cambridge, Oxford, and London, before starting as a lecturer in clinical psychology at University of Manchester in 2005. Since around this time, he has focused on using a scientific approach known as perceptual control theory, to guide his research, and to develop novel, universal, psychological interventions for mental health. Autonomous robots require the ability to learn from interaction: to try new actions, observe success and failure, and tie effects back to causes. In this talk I will describe how we can create robots that learn through interaction.
